December 12, 2012

I was doing some research earlier today on White Buffalo Calf Woman and found a "prophecy" of sorts (more on this prophecy in a bit) which brought me around to another topic. As you probably know, the Mayan calendar ends on December 12, 2012 which of course brings up all sorts of questions about the end of time or the end of days. Most of what I've seen or read spells out a terrible, cataclysmic end to man. Being that my brain functions like it does, I started googling December 12, 2012 and found more of the same terrifying prophecies AND I found this: (Note: This comes from a website named ThreeWorldWars.com which I can honestly say that I'm not sure if they are being serious or if it is a very intricate joke. I kinda hope they are joking but something tells me they are not...since they claim World War Three is PLANNED?!?!?!)

Will the world end in 2012? No, it won’t.

Will there be a major cataclysm in 2012? Quite possibly.
This page examines some of the significances behind the date of December 12, 2012.
We are currently in a period of eleven years all of which have a day with the last two digits of the year repeated three times in mm/dd/yy form (or dd/mm/yy or yy/mm/dd). So May 5, 2005 was 05/05/05; June 6, 2006 will be 06/06/06; July 7, 2007 will be 07/07/07, etc. So what's going to happen on December 12, 2012?

  • December 12, 2012 is 6 years, 6 months, 6 days from June 6, 2006, or 6/6/6 (or 2381 days)

  • December 12, 2012 is 7 years from December 12, 2005 (or 2557 days). Are we now in the Seven Year Tribulation Period?

  • December 12, 2012 is 11 years, 3 months, 1 day from September 11, 2001 (or 4110 days)

If you look at the three bullet points above, can we not add some to these? Let's just assume that we can! So how about these:

  1. December 12, 2012 is 4 years, 0 months, 8 days from December 4, 2008 (my 40th birthday...I'll be middle-aged! ARRRGH!!!)

  2. December 12, 2012 is 6 years, 6 months, 7 days from June 5, 2006 or 6/6/7 (which is the supposed NEIGHBOR of the Beast according to some popular bumper stickers)

  3. December 12, 2012 is 7 years, 10 months, 22 days from January 20, 2005 (which was the beginning of President Bush's second term in office)....NEED I SAY MORE????

Oh and one more thing about the information found on ThreeWorldWars.com...the last item they list as a matter of significance for 12/12/12 was that Prince William will be 30 years old. Is that an omen of something dire??

Why does it seem like some people are grasping at straws while others are trying to scare us into salvation OR damnation depending on whether or not you are the supposed chosen people? Why is it that most of these end day prophecies (at least the ones I have seen so don't get up in arms if I've missed some) come from Christian theologians based on interpretations of the Bible (whether they are accurate or not is a question for another day) or extremists who want to scare the wicked onto the path of righteousness OR as a reason to breed hatred of people who believe differently?

Now, when I started this post I mentioned that I had started by researching White Buffalo Calf Woman. In this research I found something I had not read before which is below. After reading this, maybe the date 12/12/12 doesn't mean the end of man or the end of days, but maybe the beginning of a new era...an era of peace and enlightenment and unity. All I ask is this...ISN'T IT POSSIBLE?

The following was taken from http://www.marythunder.com/Animals/Buffaloes/SacredWhiteBuffaloes/WhiteBuffaloCalfWoman.htm

2,000 years ago a beautiful young woman appeared to the Lakota Sioux.

She gave thepeople a sacred pipe and taught them how to use it to pray.

Before she left them, she said she would return.

She was known as White Buffalo Calf Woman.

~ In 1875, Tatanka Yotanka (Sitting Bull), was participating in the annual Sun Dance powwow at Standing Rock, Dakota Territory.

All at once, he collapsed into a trance.

In his vision, he found himself 400 miles to the west, in the hilly coulee country of eastern Montana.

There, Sitting Bull met WHITE BUFFALO CALF WOMAN, guardian spirit of the Lakota People.

She told him that in one year's time a big battle will be fought there.

The Lakotas will be victorious, she said, but victory will bring hardship.

However, White Buffalo Calf Woman told Sitting Bull that the Lakota people will experience a GREAT REVIVAL IN A FEW GENERATIONS.

[One year later, on the 25th June, 1876, theBattle of the Little Big Horn took place]

~In 1998, Floyd Hand, 19th holder ofWhite Buffalo Calf Woman's sacred medicine pipe, had a vivid dream of a beautiful woman in a rainbow-coloured dress who said she would bring a message of unity and peace to mankind. Very soon

A nation is coming

A nation is coming

A nation is coming

A nation is coming

The whole world is coming

Over the whole earth

they are coming

A Nation is coming

Extreme Christian fundamentalists who believe the 1611 version of the King James Bible is the only true (not to mention inerrant and infallible) word of God to humanity, have said the date itself proves their thinking to be true. Some say the number 9 stands for judgment (the “meaning” of Bible numbers varies depending upon which fundamentalist you are talking to). The numbers 1611 add up to equal 9. And the words, King James, have a total of 9 letters. So, according to some fundies, God has given God’s final word to humanity in the 1611 King James Bible and those who do not head it will face severe judgment. Little do many of them know, however, that they do not read from the actual 1611 version. It was revised in the 1700s. I have a facsimile edition of the 1611 and it is barely readable due to the old English.

There is so much else I could say about the whole number game and the end of time game that is played by so many religious people. I personally choose to stay away from such things. I believe it is more important to live in the NOW rather than in the future.

In Acts 1 the disciples asked Jesus, “will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Jesus answered, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons which God has put in God’s own power. But you shall receive power after the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you shall be witnesses unto me…” To me Jesus is saying don’t worry about the future, some “end time” prophecies. Those things are in God’s hands. Rather, work on living in full communion and fellowship with the Spirit, letting God work through you to be witnesses to me – the things I taught – love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, peace, etc, etc.

DECLARATION OF THE FOUR SACRED THINGS

The earth is a living, conscious being. In company with cultures of many different times and places, we name these things as sacred: air, fire, water, and earth.

Whether we see them as the breath, energy, blood, and body of the Mother, or as the blessed gifts of a Creator, or as symbols of the interconnected systems that sustain life, we know that nothing can live without them.

To call these things sacred is to say that they have a value beyond their usefulness for human ends, that they themselves become the standards by which our acts, our economics, our laws and our purposes must be judged. No one has the right to appropriate them or profit from them at the expense of others. Any government that fails to protect them forfeits its legitimacy.

All people, all living things, are part of the earth life, and so are sacred. No one of us stands higher or lower than any other. Only justice can assure balance: only ecological balance can sustain freedom. Only in freedom can that fifth sacred thing we call spirti flourish in its full diversity.

To honor the sacred is to create conditions in which nourishment, sustenance, habitat, knowledge, freedom, and beauty can thrive. To honor the sacred is to make love possible.

To this we dedicate our curiosity, our will, our courage, our silences, and our voices. To this we dedicate our lives.
